John “Snapper” Walter Knapp, a US Army Veteran, Dies at 85
John “Snapper” Walter Knapp, 85 of Bushkill, PA, entered into rest Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at his home in Bushkill where he spent the last 27 years.
The son of the late Joseph and Mary (Cornish) Knapp, John was born July 26, 1932 in Newburgh, NY. John was proud to serve our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On September 18, 1954 he married his beloved wife Rosa who predeceased John. He was a life-member of the Vails Gate Fire Department, Vails Gate, NY and a life-member and Past Chief of the Parsippany Fire Department, Parsippany, NJ.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Kunze of Waterville NY; grandson, Joseph Kunze also of Waterville; a sister, Betty Grant of Walden, NY; nieces and nephews, Bettyann, Jack, Jerry, Ronnie and Debbie. In addition to his parents and his wife, John was predeceased by his son, John Knapp Jr., two sisters, Peggy Beske & Dot Jones and three brothers, Joe, Dave and Harry.
Visitation will be held from 2-5 pm on Sunday, October 1 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10 am on Monday, October 2 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, New Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in John’s memory may be made to the Parsippany Fire Dept., 60 Littleton Road Parsippany N.J. 07054.
