The First Ever Hudson Valley Steampunk Festival to Take Place this Weekend
If you're a fan of retro and futuristic themes along with 19th century technology this Hudson Valley event may be up your ally.
Dutchess County Tourism is reporting that the first even Hudson Valley Steampunk festival is going on this weekend in Red Hook. On Saturday September, 30 at the Old Aero Dome in Red Hook the family can enjoy Flights of Fancy- Vintage Aviation Steampunk Day.
Starting at 10am and going until 6pm, the festival will offer something for everyone. You can take part in tea duelling, authentic vintage air show, open cockpit bi-plane rides, museum tours, vintage aircraft up close and personal, barnstorming pilots, vendors, a costume contest and Victorian Picnic (you'll have to supply your own contents.)
Local business woman Dolly and Birdie created the event to support the Aerodome and support the steampunk Do-It-Yourself culture. When asked to explain what exactly steampunk is Dolly said "It is kind of hard to explain, but to put it very simply, steampunk is an inspired global movement of creativity and imagination”.
A fun steampunk and Hudson Valley fact, Cole Palen was an original steampunk aviator and founded the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome in 1958.
Tickets will be available at the gate the day of the event. $25 for adults and $12 for children.
