Joan M. Skerritt, an Area Resident, Dies at 77
Joan M. Skerritt, 77, an area resident since 1972, died on Sunday August 27, 2017 at Putnam Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on July 28, 1940 in Manhattan, Joan was the daughter of Jerome and Salvatrice “Tilly” (Ricotta) O’Neill. She attended cosmetology school. She owned and operated her own salon in Hopewell Junction, and continued to be a successful beautician in the local area for many years. Joan worked as a Direct Support Professional for Dutchess ARC for 6 years until her retirement in 2010.
Joan was a parishioner at St. Denis Church. More than anything, she loved her family and grandchildren.
On May 13, 1967 in Nanuet, Joan married Michel Skerritt who predeceased her on February 3, 1999. Joan is survived by her sons, Michael Skerritt of Poughkeepsie and Jerry Skerritt of Wappingers Falls; her grandchildren, Tiffany Skerritt, Lacey Riordan, Riley Skerritt, Tyler Skerritt and Nicholas Skerritt; her great-granddaughter, Ava Grace Skerritt; her sister, Geraldine Martello of Long Beach; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Joan was predeceased by her daughter, Anita Skerritt Maule on March 10, 2005.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 3-6pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held at 6pm.
