Woodstock NY's Christmas Tree Receives a Stunning Transformation

Many towns across the Hudson Valley are getting into the holiday spirit with decorations and lights that all residents can enjoy.

One Hudson Valley town however, had to go back the drawing board after their first initial tree lighting.

Woodstock, NY Christmas Tree Gets Roasted Online

The first week of December gave several Hudson Valley communities the opportunity to kick off their holiday season celebrations. Some had parades like Sinterklaas in Rhinebeck, others opted for the classic tree lighting.

Woodstock, New York was one of those towns. Unfortunately after the town of Woodstock tree was lit, it illuminated all of its imperfections. Which went wild on social media. Facebook user Joseph Carney shared the following photo of the tree with the caption:

Others compared it to the Charlie Brown Tree, but worse.

After many complaints from the Woodstock Community, we heard that the tree came down and was going to be replaced.

Woodstock, NY Town Supervisor Discusses "Tree-Gate" 2023

We spoke to the Woodstock Town Supervisor Bill McKenna to clarify what exactly happened with the quirky tree. He shares that a "series of mishaps" led to the unique tree that was placed in the center of town. McKenna says that he and the new Highway Superintendent went over to Dutchess County and settled on a tree right before Thanksgiving.

A few day later, a crew went out a cut down a different tree which then slipped, causing a few branches to break here and there. Crews tried to fill in the spots (just like they do at Rockefeller Center!), but it just wasn't working out.

After the backlash McKenna says he and his wife made the trek back over the bridge to Rhinebeck and "low and behold the original tree that the Superintendent and I picked out was still there." He goes on to say that the new tree is also imperfect and is a bit crooked, but it looks beautiful with the lights.

Dazzling Lake George Winter's Dream Experience at Fort William Henry

Lake George Winter's Dream at Fort William Henry runs from Friday, December 8th through March 31st. The hours are from dusk, around 5:15 pm until 10 pm daily except Tuesdays. (It is closed on Christmas, New Year's Day, and January 2nd). The average time to explore Winter's Dream is 40-60 minutes.

There are six sections: Cabin of Dreams, Dreamscapes, Full Moons, Frozen Lake, First Snow, and Winter Woods.
