
Discount Retail Store Closing Its 3rd Hudson Valley Location?
We can now add this Dutchess County, NY location to the list of stores that will reportedly close by the end of the year.
Over the last couple of weeks, we've learned that the discount retail giant Big Lots was reportedly closing more locations than previously announced. In August Big Lots announced that they were preparing to close over 300 stores across the country including 10 in New York State.
Big Lots Closing New York Stores
According to Big Lots, stores in Buffalo, Queensbury, Ithaca, Plattsburgh, Long Island, Canandaigua, Ithaca, New Hartford, and Poughkeepsie, New York were all set to close soon. That list quickly jumped to 12 stores when two new stores in Binghamton and Troy, NY recently began having 20% off going-out-of-business sales.
Kingston, NY Big Lots Closing?
At the time the only Hudson Valley location set to close was the store located at 43 Burnett Blvd, Poughkeepsie, NY. That was until we learned that the Big Lots located at 1375 Ulster Ave, Kingston, NY will also reportedly close before the end of the year. A store employee confirmed the closure by phone less than two weeks ago telling us that the store would be closing but was unsure when.
Big Lots in Wappingers Falls, NY Closing
A few days after we published an article about the possibility of the Kingston store closing sources told us that the Wappingers Falls, NY location would also be closing soon. Similarly, we contacted the Wappingers store located in the Imperial Plaza Shopping Center at 1574 Route 9, Wappingers Falls, NY by phone and was told by a store employee that they would be closing in December.
Why Are Hudson Valley Big Lots Closing?
Neither employee in Kingston or Wappingers Falls provided a reason for the closures when asked or if it had anything to do with the company filing for bankruptcy but both did say that they expect going-out-of-business sales to start soon and encourage holiday shoppers to start early.

Once these stores close the only Big Lot stores left in the Hudson Valley will be in Newburgh, Middletown, and Saugerties, NY. We have reached out to Big Lots through its website to confirm the closures but haven't heard back yet. When we do we will update this article.
