A Dutchess County man has died while hiking a popular Hudson Valley trail.

NBC is reporting that 25-year-old Kenneth Steier was hiking the Washburn Trail which is a mile south of Breakneck Ridge.

According to NBC, Steier was hiking with two friends without protective ropes Thursday afternoon around 6 pm.

It's being reported that Steier fell about 100 feet the rocky bottom and was pronounced dead on the scene.  The New York state park police, the Putnam County Sheriff's Department, and the Philipstown Volunteer Ambulance Corps were all at the scene.

Breakneck Ridge is one of the more difficult trails according to the Hike the Hudson Valley website and is a part of the Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve.

Back in September of 2017 it was reported that Breakneck was closing for repairs and construction along the trails.

In July of 2017 a man from New York City also fell and died at Breakneck Ridge.
