Hudson Valley Man Charged in Intoxicated Fatal Hit-and-Run
An alleged intoxicated Hudson Valley man has been charged with vehicular manslaughter following a fatal hit-and-run.
Monday night, police responded to reports of a man hit be a car on Temple Hill Road near the New Windsor Cantonment State Historic Site. Responding officials found a man unconscious on the side of the road.
New Windsor Police say 31-year-old Luis DeJesus, of New Windsor was walking north when he was hit from behind by a car driven by 33-year-old Michael A. Rule, of Pine Bush. Police allege Rule was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
DeJesus was taken to St Luke’s Cornwall Hospital where he died from his injuries.
Witnesses spotted Rule’s dented vehicle driving erratically on Route 747. Town of Newburgh Police stopped the vehicle and called New Windsor Police.
Rule was charged with 2nd-degree vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of a fatal accident, felonies, and driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.
Rule was arraigned in New Windsor Town Court. Bail was set at $10,000 which was paid by a family member.
