Hudson Valley Man Charged for Killing Gas Station Worker

A Hudson Valley man is accused of fatally running over a gas station worker, leaving the scene and assaulting a woman.

On Thursday in Orange County Court, 22-year-old Milton Galdamez-Pena of Newburgh, was arraigned on an indictment charging him with manslaughter, leaving the scene of incident without reporting, criminally negligent homicide, assault, and unlawful possession of marijuana.

The charges were filed in connection with the death of a gas station worker who was struck and killed by a car driven by Galdmez-Pena on July 30, 2017, officials say.

It is alleged that Galdemez-Pena drove a car into the Shell gas station on Broadway in the City of Newburgh and drove over a worker who was measuring the gas level near an orange safety-barrel which was near the gas pumps.

Galdemez-Pena then placed the car in reverse and backed the car over the worker, officials say.

Galdemez-Pena then allegedly got out of his car, looked at the worker, re-entered the car and drove off.

One of his three passengers was injured when Galdemez-Pena backed the car over her foot, officials say.

“For someone to simply drive off after seeing that they have seriously injured someone with their vehicle is itself conduct which is deserving of punishment,” Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler said. “My deepest condolences go out to the family of the deceased in this case. Fatalities caused by those who drive recklessly are as tragic as they are preventable.”
