Hudson Valley Landmark To Be Closed For Seven Months

The former home of President Franklin D Roosevelt will be closed for up to seven months in 2020 for renovations and repairs. The property itself will remain open during this time so that visitors may access the Museum and Presidential Library.

According to a press release from the National Park Service, the April 1st to October 31st closure is necessary for safety and efficiency purposes. The time frame was chosen because the work needs to be done in warmer months. Should the project be done early, they'll reopen at that time.

A complete overhaul of the heating and cooling system is required with a focus on the second and third-floor interiors. The fire alarms and security systems need an overhaul on the first and second floors. Painting and plaster repairs will be going on simultaneously and the overall cost will be nearly $3.3 million and is completely funded. An additional $360,000 worth of conservation work could be done at a later time but requires extra funding.
