Grand Jury Indicts Mother for 10-Month-Old Daughter’s Drowning
A grand jury has indicted a woman for the drowning death of her 10-month old daughter.
Kayla M. Pagan, 26, of Marlboro was indicted on one count of criminally negligent homicide and endangering the welfare of a child for the drowning death of her 10-month-old in a bathtub at their home.
We previously reported that on the evening of July 8, Pagan was home with her daughter and was giving her a bath. Pagan then allegedly left the bathroom for what police characterize as a "unreasonable amount of time." The child was left in the bathtub as it continued to fill with water.
The baby's father returned home from work to find his daughter in the bathtub with the water running. He removed his daughter, called 911 and started performing CPR. The child was rushed to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The grand jury, by indicting Pagan with criminally negligent homicide determined that there was sufficient proof that Pagan’s conduct constituted negligence.
Pagan remains in Ulster County Jail pending her appearance in Ulster County Court.
