The Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge will temporarily close this weekend as the Tappan Zee Bridge is demolished.

According to New York CBS Local, the Governor Mario M. Cuomo bridge will temporarily close this weekend as explosives are used to demolish the old Tappan Zee Bridge. The closure is planned for Saturday, January 12, 2018, starting at 9:30 a.m. The closure will be for both directions of the bridge, and in turn, the New York State Thruway. The closure is expected to last roughly 45 minutes.

If you're close to the area of the bridge, expect to hear a boom similar to fireworks, as reported by New York CBS Local. If you're looking to get a view of the demolition and explosion, many nearby restaurants are hosting viewing parties.

If you're planning to travel to Westchester County, Rockland County, or New York City, plan on taking a different route of travel than the New York State Thruway, as it will likely be a mess with traffic and delays.
