Four Hudson Valley Locations to be Added to State and National Historic Places List

How lucky are we that we get to call the Hudson Valley home? Think about it, the natural beauty that is right out our front doors is breathtaking, photographers come form all over the world to capture it, as do painters. If you are a history lover, like myself, then you never run out of places to explore and learn about. The Hudson Valley is also rich artistically and culturally.

Of the many, beautiful and historic locations throughout the Hudson Valley, almost 700 of them are currently on the State and National Registers of Historic Places, which is quite an honor. Today, 4 more locations are being nominated to be added to the list.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced today that the Woodstock Music Festival Site in Bethel, the Dubois Farmhouse in Poughkeepsie, the Soldiers Memorial Fountain and Park ion Poughkeepsie, and the Onderdonck-Tallman-Budke and Vanderbilt-Budke-Traphagen Houses in Clarkstown are on the list of nominations for 2106.

Not only is it a prestigious honor to make this list, but it also helps property owners revitalize buildings by making them eligible for a variety of public preservation programs and services. Matching state grant monies become available as well as national tax credits can help keep these places maintained for generations to come.

The next step is approval by the state historic preservation officer. Each location is then added to the New York State Register of Historic Places and placed in nomination to be a nationally recognized historic location.
