For the second time this week someone has been accused of stealing from a local Home Depot. This time it’s an employee.

On Nov. 2, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Home Depot on Independent Way in the Town of Southeast for reports of a larceny.

The asset protection supervisor at the store said that an employee, who works at the return desk, was taking items that were being returned by customers.

The employee is also accused of creating additional return transactions in order to acquire store credit for these items.

An investigation determined that the employee, 22-year-old Jacob C. Mattamana of North Salem stole $3,725.16 from the store during a four month period, police say.

Mattamana was arrested and charged with third degree grand larceny, a felony. He was processed at the Putnam County Correctional Facility and held pending arraignment.

If found guilty, Mattamana faces up to seven years in a New York State Correctional Facility and a fine of up to $5,000
