CDC Grades How Much Each State Exercises-How Does NY Rank?
A new study has come out that ranks each state in the United States by how much they exercise.
The Center For Disease Control (CDC) just released their ranking of each US state by how much they exercise, and I'm not going to lie, the results are surprising. According to Inc., the CDC reports that less than 1 in 4 Americans exercise enough.
According to the CDC, walking is considered moderate exercise and jogging is considered vigorous exercise. If you walk 150 minutes per week or jog 75 minutes each week, Inc. reports that you have cleared the CDC minimum suggestion for aerobic exercise. The CDC also suggests that you do weight lifting/strength exercises twice a week. Only 22.9% of Americans met those guidelines.
The article breaks down the top 5 and bottom 5 states based on what percentage of their residents meet the exercise guidelines set by the CDC. These are the top 5 and what percentage of residents met the requirements
- Colorado: 32.5 percent
Idaho: 31.4 percent
New Hampshire: 30.7 percent
Washington, DC: 30.7 percent
- Vermont: 29.5 percent
These are the worst 5 states:
47. Arkansas: 15.7 percent
48. Indiana: 15.1 percent
49.South Carolina: 14.8 percent
50. Kentucky: 14.6 percent
51. Mississippi: 13.5 percent (Washington D.C. was included, making the list 51)
And where does New York rank for all of this? as the 42nd state for number of residents who exercise. We are 9 away from being the state with the least amount of people who exercise. Only 19.2% of New York's population gets enough exercise.
