After an extensive 9 day search, the missing 68-year-old schizophrenic Dutchess County Man was found.

Edward E. Lopez was previously last seen before 5:00 p.m. on March 14, 2016 at the Lakeview Chateau Community Residence located on W. Hunns Lake Road in the Town of Stanford. It is believed he left the residence on foot.

After conducting an exhaustive search of over 2,500 acres in the Town of Stanford which included search teams, canines, aviation assets and divers, State Police moved their search efforts to New York City.

Lopez was observed in lower Manhattan by someone who recognized him from the media coverage and alerted authorities of his location.

Lopez was picked up by the New York City Police Department and turned over to State Police. He was transported to Bellevue Hospital where he received a medical and mental evaluation. Officials say he is in good health.

Lopez was released from the hospital and State Police transported him back to the Lakeview Chateau Community Residence.

New State Police were assisted by the following agencies: New York State Forest Rangers, New York State ENCON Officers, members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, Westchester County Department of Public Safety, New York City Police Department, New York State Police from Troop NYC, Metropolitan Transportation Authority Police Department, Department of Social Services, and numerous volunteers search and rescue teams from around the tristate area including: Search Team 5-1, Lower Adirondack Search and Rescue, Central Adirondack Search and Rescue, Sam’s Point Search and Rescue Eagle Valley Search Dogs, Northeast Mobile Search and Rescue, Hudson Mohawk Search and Rescue, Tri State Emergency Response Search and Rescue, New Jersey Search and Rescue, Cayuga County Highland Search Dogs, MTA
Police Department, New York City Police Department, and State Police
members stationed in New York City.
