Andrew Alfred Chaffee, Sr., 86, a resident of Poughquag for 32 years and previously of Lake Carmel and the Bronx, died on May 1, 2017 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was lovingly known as “Papa” to his family and friends.

Born on May 7, 1930 in St. Albans, VT, Andrew was the son of Howard and Virginia (Garceau) Chaffee. He proudly served our country in the US Army during the Korean War, and had been employed by Grand Union in Mount Kisco as a truck driver until his retirement in 1992.

Andrew was a parishioner of St. Kateri Church in LaGrangeville. An avid hunter, he and his wife enjoyed bowling on leagues in both Fishkill and Carmel. He is a lifelong member of the Lake Carmel and Union Vale Fire Departments.

On March 31, 1951 in Yonkers, Andrew married Florence Guerrieri who survives him at home. In addition to his wife, Andrew is survived by his children and their spouses, Andrew and Patricia Chaffee of Lake Carmel, Robert and Gail Chaffee of Pawling, Wayne and Carol Chaffee of Lake Carmel, Dennis and Lorraine Chaffee of Highland, Lori-Ann Pozzuoli of Poughquag, Pamela and Michael Vizzini of Greenwood, SC, and Diedre Chaffee and her daughter, the apple of Papa’s eye, Chyanne; his sister, Beatrice Senecal and her husband Francis; and his 22 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Andrew was predeceased by his daughter, Denise Malstrom in 1999; his son in law, Robert Pozzuoli in 2009; his grandchildren, Anthony Wind in 2015 and Brandy Camelli in 2009; and his siblings, Robert Bruso, Barbara Wonsor, Pauline Stacy and Harold Chaffee.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 1-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 10am at St. Kateri Church, 1925 Route 82, Lagrangeville followed by interment in Raymond Hill Cemetery.
