National Weather Service Connection

Albert J. Meyer, the man who founded the US National Weather Service was born in Newburgh on September 20, 1829.

First Outdoor Flea Market

The first outdoor flea market for the United States was held in Newburgh in 1752.

In 1884, one of the first central electric generating stations opened in Newburgh and Thomas Edison supervised this.
