VIDEO: Village of Wappingers Falls in Flames Once Again
Stunning footage shows another building up in flames in the Village of Wappingers Falls on February 25.
Onlookers were in disbelief as another building in the Village of Wappingers Falls was engulfed in fire on Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters were responding to the second alarm at 10 Market Street just after 1pm as smoke billowed out of the second-story apartments. The first floor was home to TJ's Barber Shop and Mario's Sandwich Company, which recently opened.
Eyewitnesses say the fire started on the side of the building where welding work was being done. A first responder told me that the call came in saying the fire was being extinguished, but the flames appear to have traveled up the wall to the second floor where the fire then grew larger.
Across the street, the Di'Vine Wine Bar was already making preparations for next weekend's St. Patrick's Day Parade scheduled in the village. Their windows were being painted with shamrocks and leprechauns as firefighters pointed their hoses at the nearby building.
Residents who have been displaced from the fire are being directed to the Knights of Columbus on East Main Street. The Red Cross has set up a temporary headquarters in the building to assist those who have been affected by the tragedy.
Wappinger Town Hall closed early on Tuesday due to the amount of smoke from the fire that was being brought into the building through the HVAC system.
In June of 2017 multiple buildings on the Main Street side of the same block went up in flames, causing many to lose their homes and businesses.
This is a breaking story and we will update it with more information as it becomes available.
