This is a great time in the Hudson Valley but it can also be dangerous, so we have come up with some tips to make sure you are safe this summer.

I absolutely love this time of year in the Hudson Valley, we have some great concerts coming our way including Chris Stapleton, Tim Mcgraw, Luke Bryan and more.

We also are just about ready to start up fair season with the Orange County Fair opening this month, same goes for the Ulster County Fair in New Paltz and we get to wrap up summer with the Dutchess County Fair towards the end of August at the fairgrounds in Rhinebeck.

The folks over at Mobile Life Support Services have come up with a bunch of tips to make sure we all make it through these great events. They say that when outdoors, it’s important to stay hydrated, especially during the heat of summer because as we sweat, we lose water and electrolytes that need to be replenished.

So the first tip is to make sure you drink a ton of water when you are outside and make sure you try to keep a bottle or two with you at all times.

Some of the other safety precautions according to Mobile Life, when attending any outdoor events or festivals this summer include:

Dress appropriately for the weather. Layering is a great technique to be prepared for all-day weather, including cooler nights. Outdoor events often require a decent amount of walking, so a comfortable pair of shoes is also recommended.

Look for shaded areas and make sure you use sunscreen with at least an SPF of 30. Make sure that you reapply sunscreen throughout the day.

Use the buddy system. When traveling across fairgrounds, even to and from the bathroom during a concert, using the buddy system will improve your safety.

Don’t be afraid to visit the medical tent. A trip to the hospital may be costly, but medical tents located at outdoor events offer free care. Medical tents are well-equipped to handle a number of problems without requiring a hospital visit.

Drink responsibly. For individuals over the legal drinking age of 21, remember to keep a one-to-one ratio in mind; drink one glass of water for every alcoholic beverage consumed. Don’t take drinks from strangers nor leave your drink unattended.

Be safe this summer and we hope to see you at all of these great events. Make sure you look for the Wolf tent all across the Hudson Valley.
