On Sunday, Cuomo confirmed 7,195 additional coronavirus cases in New York State, bringing the statewide total to 59,513. Cuomo also announced 965 people from New York have died from the virus, but he expects many more deaths.

"I don't see how you look at those numbers and conclude anything less than thousands of people will pass away," Cuomo said during his press conference.

On Sunday night, the Associated Press reported the number of fatalities in New York increased to 1,026.

Update: On Monday Cuomo confirmed 1,218 New Yorkers have now died from the virus.
