Marriage statistics show which towns in the Hudson Valley have the the most broken marriages, as well as the most happily married couples.

Maintaining a successful marriage isn't easy. But it seems like some couples in the Hudson Valley have a tougher time staying together than others. The highest divorce rates in the Hudson Valley, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, are located in these areas:

  1. Kingston - 16.1%
  2. Northeast - 14.2%
  3. Lumberland (Glen Spey, Hillside, Mongaup and Pond Eddy) - 14.1%
  4. Tusten (Narrowsburgh) - 13.9%
  5. Shandaken - 13.6%
  6. Woodstock and Marlboro (tie) - 13.5%
  7. Wawarsing and Callicoon (tie) - 13%
  8. Town of Olive - 12.9%
  9. Bethel - 12%
  10. Esopus and Cornwall (tie) - 11.5%

We're not exactly sure why statistics show that some areas of the Hudson Valley have a much higher divorce rate than others, but some have suggested that economic challenges and other environmental factors could be adding to marital stress. That may very well be the case. Towns with the highest divorce rate in the area seem to line up pretty closely with towns having the lowest reported median incomes in the Hudson Valley.
