Pumpkin Spice season has ended earlier than expected for many Hudson Valley coffee lovers.

Fans of the seasonal drink were surprised over the weekend when they suddenly were unable to order a Pumpkin Spice Latte at their local Hudson Valley Starbucks. Although it's not even Thanksgiving yet, several locations are already denying customers their spiced pumpkin coffees, focusing instead on a selection of holiday drinks.

The Pumpkin Spice Latte is one of Starbuck's most popular drinks. The combination of pumpkin, cinnamon and other spices spawned an entire pumpkin spice craze that many argue has gotten out of control. Now, besides just coffee, fans of the seasonal flavor can find pumpkin spice flavored Kit-Kats, pasta sauce, waffles, gum and even Spam.

For many, pumpkin spice season begins in October and lasts through Thanksgiving, which is the traditional time to enjoy pumpkin pie. But this year, Starbucks decided to begin offering their holiday drinks right after Halloween, pushing pumpkin out of the spotlight for Peppermint Mocha, Eggnog and Chestnut Praline lattes.

While some stores, like the one at Target in Poughkeepsie, still have signs advertising their pumpkin spice offerings, others have completely stopped serving them.

As of Sunday, Pumpkin Spice coffee drinks were officially sold out at locations on South Road in Poughkeepsie, Route 9 across from Marist College, Route 44 in Poughkeepsie, The Orange Plaza in Middletown and Main Street in Cortlandt Manor. Other stores have been warning customers that their time is running out to enjoy the limited-time release.

Some coffee drinkers are baffled by this decision, while others say that pumpkin spice is more of a Halloween drink. While it's true that pumpkins are a symbol of Halloween, the pumpkin pie, which the drink is flavored to taste like, is a staple on most Thanksgiving tables.

So while turkey day is still two weeks away, Hudson Valley coffee drinkers will have to wait until next year to get their next sip of pumpkin spice goodness. Consider this a warning if you happen to be a fan of Starbucks' holiday selections. Appreciate that Peppermint Mocha now, because just like Pumpkin Spice it will most likely go into hibernation sooner than you may like.
