Rail Trail Upgrades To Connect New Paltz To The Walkway
You'll soon be able to walk or bike all the way from the Walkway Over The Hudson to New Paltz after more than $3 million in trail upgrades were announced by Ulster County Executive Mike Hein.
The third and fourth phase of construction will add two miles to the trail and will create a 12 foot wide paved trail that will be available for hiking and biking. The trail will be accessible for those with disabilities and limited mobility as well.
Phase three will add 0.7 miles from Tony Williams Park to New Paltz Road and will be undertaken by the Town of Lloyd. Phase four will stretch from the end point of phase three all the way to South Street off of Route 299, an additional 1.25 miles. Ulster County will oversee Phase four. Federal funding will cover 80% of construction costs.
The additions are all part of what will become the Empire State Trail by 2021. Announced in January 2017 by Governor Cuomo, the trail will stretch some 750 miles when completed.
