A Hudson Valley teen is recovering from gunshot wounds after a Poughkeepsie street was riddled with gunshots in the afternoon.

The Poughkeepsie PBA is sharing information about a shooting that took place in the City of Poughkeepsie on Wednesday just after 4pm. According to authorities, multiple patrol units and detectives responded to the area of Lent and Smith Streets after receiving several reports of shots fired.

Police say they discovered a 19-year-old male victim at the scene who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his legs. It appears that a hail of gunfire erupted on the street, leaving several buildings damaged due to bullet strikes.

The location of the gunfire is just a block away from Warring Elementary School, which had just recessed for the day. It's unclear if any students were present during the shooting. Crime Scene Technicians uncovered numerous items in the area that they say have now become evidence in the investigation.

The 19-year-old victim was transported by Mobile Life to Mid Hudson Regional Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. Details of the victim's condition or extent of injuries weren't disclosed, but police say he is expected to survive.
