Sheriff's from Ulster County have arrested a Maryland man who was engaging in a sexual relationship with an juvenile female. 

The Ulster County Sheriff's Office K-9 team were conducting a training exercise in Esopus. Deputies noticed a suspicious vehicle with Maryland license plates, and at the same time they noticed a young female walking in the area.

Deputies made contact with driver and determined that he was there to meet the juvenile female, according to a press release.

Following an investigation by detectives, the driver, identified as Daniel Kenneth Poole, 48, of Maryland had been engaging in a sexual relationship with the juvenile female for approximately 6 months.

Poole had initially engaged the victim online and subsequently began traveling to New York to engage in sexual acts with the victim.

Detectives coordinated with the Cecil County Sheriff's Office in Maryland and executed a search of the defendant's residence. Additional evidence was recovered from the location.

Daniel Kenneth Poole, 48, of Port Deposit, MD was charged with:

  •  Criminal Sexual Act 2nd degree, a class D felony
  •  Criminal sexual Act 3rd degree, a class E felony (6 counts)
  •  Rape 3rd degree, a class E felony (6 counts)

Poole was arraigned in the Town of Rosendale Court and remanded to Ulster County Jail in lieu of $200,000 cash bail, or $400,000 property bond.

Deputies and Detectives were assisted in the investigation by the United States Department of Homeland Security Investigations and the Ulster County District Attorney's Office.

The investigation is ongoing and further charges are forthcoming.
