Police arrested a man in Putnam County after he was allegedly found to be in possession of heroin, pills, cash, and several cellphones.

In late Sept., members of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office conducted a number of checks following reports of suspicious activity at a Town of Southeast service station.

During one of their many checks, officials found a man they say was acting in a strange manner. A field interview and investigation revealed that 27-year-old Jeffery Gomez of the Bronx was at the service station to sell drugs, police say.

A police search allegedly found Gomez to be in possession of 40 baggies of heroin, 34 Alprazolam pills, $600 in cash and several cellphones.

Gomez was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felonies.

He was arraigned before Town of Southeast Court and committed to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $15,000 cash bail pending a future court appearance.

If found guilty of the most serious felony charge, the defendant could face up to 25 years in prince and a fine of up to $30,000, authorities say.
