When most kids get money as gifts for Christmas, their first thought is what can they buy for themselves. But after seeing a homeless man at a Middletown gas station on an extremely cold morning in December, 6th grader Logan Eisenberg asked his mother if he could donate it to HONOR, an organization that helps people fighting chemical dependency, in need of transitional housing, or crisis intervention.

Instead, his mom suggested that they start a sock drive to help HONOR. Logan was off and running. What started as a Facebook page with the hopes of collecting 3,000 pairs of socks became so much more as almost 4,000 pairs of socks were collected.

Today, Orange County Executive Steven M. Neuhaus recognized Logan Eisenberg as the Citizen of the Month Award winner for the month of February for his compassion for those less fortunate than himself. Logan attends Monhagen Middle School, where he is in the 6th grade and plays in the Jazz band as well as being a member of the Technology Club. His next project to help others involves volunteering at a local soup kitchen.

Thanks for your good work Logan and congratulations!
