On Tuesday bomb threats were phoned into dozens of schools across 8 states. New York State wasn’t one of them, but one Orange County school, for the second time this month, was placed on lockdown.

According to the Town of Wallkill Police Department, around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, a call was received at Maple Hill Elementary School, in Wallkill, reporting that there was going to be a violent incident at the school.

The school was placed on lockdown as members of the Town of Wallkill Police, New York State Police, and Orange County Sheriff’s Office searched the inside and outside of the buildings and grounds. Their search failed to find anyone or anything that would put students and staff at the school in danger. Around 10:30 a.m. the lockdown was lifted.

This marks the second time this month the school has received a threat. On January 4th State Police charged a 9-year-old from Middletown for making a terrorist threat at the Wallkill elementary school.

Schools in Delware, Iowa, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey, Florida, Arizona, and New Hampshire all received bomb threats on Tuesday. The threats forced evacuations, lockdowns or caused classes to be suspended. The calls came from numbers generated by a computer traced to Bakersfield, California. The investation is ongoing.
