Officer Attacked at Greene County Jail

A female corrections officer was sent to the hospital with injuries.

According to CBS 6, a unnamed female corrections officer who works at the Greene Correctional Facility in Coxsackie was attacked by an inmate back on June 5th and sustained injuries that were treated at a local hospital.

The New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association have announced that the attack happened around 9 p.m. when a female officer, who was working alone working alone in one of the jails housing units was followed into a supply closet by an inmate and attacked.

The announcement stated how the attack happened, they say that once in the supply closet, the inmate continually punched the officer in her face and slamming her against the wall, along with striking her multiple times in the thigh to try and get her down on the floor.

As the attack was happening, the inmate ripped off the officer’s body camera, grabbed her personal alarm radio from her belt, and threw both out of her reach so she couldn't call for help. Other inmates at the jail heard the struggle as it was happening and came to the officer's aid and stepped in stopping the attack. They then activated the officer's personal alarm radio which called additional officers to the scene and got the attacker in custody.

Emergency personal were called to the scene and the officer was taken to Albany Medical Center for treatment of injuries that she sustained in the attack. The officer has not returned to work yet according to the New York State Correctional Officers & Police Benevolent Association.
