On Sunday, Gov. Kathy Hochul today updated New Yorkers on the state's progress combating COVID-19. 2.85 percent of all tests came back positive in the previous 24 hours. The 7-day positivity rate is 3.29 percent.

Hochul reported 27 more New Yorkers died from COVID bringing the total deaths reported from COVID in New York to 55,453. 258 New Yorkers were admitted to the hospital. 2,148 New Yorkers are currently hospitalized with COVID with 445 in ICU and 222 in ICU with intubation, according to Hochul.

"None of us want to have to relive the nightmares of the past, so it's more important than ever to get vaccinated and to wear masks in crowded places," Hochul said. "As we continue to keep an eye on the numbers across the state and review safety measures, we all need to do our part to help protect each other.

Hochul reports 79.4 percent of all New Yorkers 18 and older have received at least one vaccine while 71.4 percent have completed their vaccine series. 67 percent of all eligible New Yorkers have at least one vaccine dose.

"As the Delta variant makes its way through communities across the country, it's crucial we keep doing everything we can to keep each other safe from the COVID virus," Hochul said. "Wear a mask and, if you haven't already, get your vaccine as soon as you can. The vaccine is the best way to protect yourselves and your loved ones."
