'Livability' - A State-By-State Analysis

Recently, WalletHub took the time to analyze 51 indicators across the 50 states to rate livability. Extremely important factors like safety, affordability, education, quality of life, general economy were assessed, as well as factors like restaurants per capita, death rate. and health care systems.

Like many other recent studies that address state-by-state rankings, Massachusetts topped the list for best states to live in for 2025. The 'Bay State' scored very well across the board, but particularly strong in health care, health insurance coverage rates, lower crime rates, high median household income, and high-quality education and school systems, as demonstrated below.

Rounding out the top five list following MA's top spot is Idaho (2), New Jersey (3), Wisconsin (4), and Minnesota (5); but what about New York

New York's Number Nine Status For Best States To Live In

Scoring a 'top ten' position is nothing to be ashamed of for The Empire State, especially when the total score difference between MA (60.23) and NY (57.94) was less than three points.

New York's status as number nine is highlighted by our number one ranking for quality of life, fifth for average weekly work hours, the seventh state with regard to safety, eighth for percentage of insured population, and 15th for education and health rank.

New York, not surprisingly, also scored very well when it comes to restaurants per capita, landing the number one spot (but tied with Texas, California, and Florida), but, came in towards the bottom, at number 47 for affordability. New York falls short in the homeownership rate category (50)
