The summer time is a great time to enjoy family and friends around the pool. Sadly, it can also be a time when we hear stories about pool fun turning deadly. Luckily, this was not the case in New Paltz recently, thanks to some fast acting folks that include two New York State Troopers.

According to a post on the New Your State Police Facebook page earlier today (August 3, 2020) Trooper April Roberts and Trooper Daniel Gilmore were recently on a call for an unconscious and unresponsive four-year-old drowning victim. The post does not explain the circumstances around the drowning or what type of body of water it was but fortunately the incident seems to have ended with a happy ending.

Trooper Roberts and Gilmore were aided by a Town of New Paltz Police officer and two off duty nurse at the scene. They immediately started CPR and then Trooper Roberts used her Division-issued AED to revive the child. New Paltz Rescue transported the victim to Health Alliance Hospital where the child is expected to be okay.

We still have plenty of summer days left where we will be enjoying time around the water. It is a good idea to brush up on water safety whether you have a pool, visit a lake or boat on the Hudson River. The Red Cross offers great tips for keeping kids safe.
