Michael Algiere of Wallkill, NY, a resident of the area died Thursday, October 6, 2016, at home peacefully with his family by his side. He was 80.

The son of James Edward Algiere and Marie (Grasso)Algiere, he was born October 16, 1935 in Pleasantville, New York. He grew up in Mount Vernon, NY. Worked for the Mount Vernon Water Department for 10 years and the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority for over 20 years.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing, golfing and carpentry. He was known by many around town as the mayor and always loved to spark up a conversation or crack a joke to anyone that would listen whether he knew them or not. He also loved spending time with all of his grandchildren; they were his world.

He was predeceased by both parents and his sister MaryLou Algiere.

Survivors include his wife at home of 47 years, Rita Algiere, son Vincent Algiere residing in Pawling, NY, his children Nicolette and Daniel Algiere, son Alfred Algiere and (wife) Janet residing in Redhook, NY, their children Denise and Alfred, daughter Gina Van Leuven and (husband) Joseph residing in Gardiner, NY, their children Austin and Montana, daughter Danielle Skowronski and(husband) Robert residing in Huetten, Germany, their children Taylor, Riley and Oliver Michael and son Michael Algiere and (wife) Lisa of Chincoteague, VA, their daughter Stephanie.

Visitation will be 3pm-7pm Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden, NY.

A funeral mass will be 11 am Monday, October 10, 2016, at St. Benedicts Chapel, Wallkill Ave, Wallkill, NY.
