Attention, Kmart shoppers, this is your last chance to visit the iconic department store.

As we reported in September, the last Kmart store in the Mid Hudson region announced that it was closing and laying off 71 employees. The store on Dutchess Turnpike in the City of Poughkeepsie was scheduled to close on December 23, but the last day customers will be invited into the store to shop will be this Monday, December 17.

A sign at the store on Wednesday announced that there were only five days left to take advantage of their liquidation sale. With items at least 50% off of their original prices, there wasn't much left on the shelves for shoppers to buy when we stopped by to visit.

In 2016 Kmart closed their doors on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie. Their South Hills Mall location was shuttered when 78 Sears and Kmart stores announced that they would be closing across the country. In 2017 the Kmart in Vails Gate also closed, leaving just one location left on Dutchess Turnpike in Poughkeepsie. Now, there's less than a handful of days left to shop at the very last Kmart store in the region.

Kmart isn't alone. This year there were 19 beloved Hudson Valley businesses that trended in online stories after announcing they would be closing down. Sadly, news about local stores closing down has become all too common.
