Knife-Wielding Purse Snatcher Guilty
A man who was tackled by witnesses plead guilty to stealing women’s purses in the Hudson Valley.
On Tuesday in Ulster County Court, 38-year-old Christopher D. Hasenflue of Catskill plead guilty to one count of first-degree robbery, a felony.
A witness chased after Hasenflue, tackled him to the ground, and grabbed back the purse.
Hasenflue displayed a knife and briefly chased the person who picked up the purse, police say. He ran away when witnesses said they were calling 911.
Shortly afterwards, at Fair and John Streets, Hasenflue is accused of robbing a 67-year-old woman of her purse at knife point.
Two people heard the woman scream, noticed Hasenflue running with a purse, and chased after him. Hasenflue then allegedly threatened the pair with a knife a fled behind a building.
Witnesses were able to direct police to the area were Hasenflue was last seen. He was taken into custody a short time later.
Hasenflue remains at Ulster County Jail without bail. He’s scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 24.
