Jennie Elizabeth (Storms) Simon, of New Windsor, a long-time area resident, entered into rest on November 27, 2016, at Friedwald Center in New City, NY. She was 82.

Daughter of the late Robert Harold Storms and the late Jennie Louise (Stout) Storms, she was born December 9, 1933, in Highland Falls, NY. She married the late Daniel William Simon on September 2, 1951, in Highland Falls, NY.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennie Louise Simon Penna and her husband, Henry, of New Windsor; sister, Charlotte Reddington and her husband, Walter, of Cornwall; sister-in-law, Maude Bates, of Highland Falls; cousins; numerous nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and great-grand-nieces and nephews; and by her friend, Linda O’Donnell of New Windsor.

Jennie was known for her devotion to God, her church, and her family. She was a member of the Church of God, a Worldwide Association. She took her relationship with God very seriously from the time she was a young girl and was a lifelong student of the Bible. She trusted in the Lord and waited on Him. Throughout her life, she was always serving others in some way, and she always expressed thankfulness to both the Lord for His mercies and to those who helped her in her later years.

Jennie loved God’s creation—flowers, birds, and animals. In happier times, she enjoyed flower gardening and crafts—particularly crochet and embroidery. After her husband’s retirement, she would also often accompany him to fish at the Wallkill River and enjoy the peaceful scenery.

The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to all the current and former staff at the Promenade Senior Day Care Center in New Windsor, where Jennie spent many happy weekday hours during the last few years of her life. She made many friends there and was noted for her bright, happy smile.

Visitation will be held from 2–4 and 7–9 pm on Wednesday, November 30, at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home, officiated by local elder Alan Wheeler. Interment will follow in Orange County Veterans Cemetery, Goshen, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jennie’s name may be made to the Hudson Valley chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, 384 Crystal Run Rd. Suite 102, Middletown, NY 10941-4103.
