Janine Renee Izzo of Walden, NY, a lifelong Hudson Valley resident, died peacefully at home Thursday, August 25th after a brave but short battle with cancer.

Daughter of Florentino Chan and Lorraine Chan, Janine was born December 22, 1972 in Newburgh.

"Ms. Izzo" was a caring and loving Special Education English and Reading teacher at Minisink Valley HS. She was known for her love of family, animals, airplanes, reading, photography, scrap booking, traveling with family to Disney World and Washington DC/Baltimore and the National League Champion New York Mets.

A family statement reads "Janine was a strong woman, grounded in faith and family. She took on the fight with cancer head on. She will be missed, but her strength and personality will live on in her beautiful daughter, Alyse Nicole."

In addition to her parents, Janine is survived by her husband, Victor Izzo III; daughter, Alyse Izzo; sister, Tina Chan; brother, David Chan; nephew, Dylan Reynonds; Aunt Josefina and Uncle Jose Vilaso of Palmeira, Spain.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 7 p.m., Monday, August 29th at White and Venuto Funeral Home, 188 North Plank Rd. (Route 32) in Newburgh, NY. Funeral Mass of Catholic Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 30th at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1250 Route 32, Plattekill, NY. Interment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery in Gardiner, NY.
