If you’ve been scanning the skies around the Hudson Valley recently, you’ve probably noticed a giant floating icon overhead—the Goodyear Blimp!

Spotted cruising over Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, Middletown, and other towns in the area, it’s been turning heads and sparking plenty of chatter.

According to some eagle-eyed internet sleuths (and my trusty FlightRadar app), the blimp appears to be based out of the Orange County Airport in Montgomery.

But what’s the big deal?

Well, the consensus among fans and aviation enthusiasts is that the blimp is headed to Watkins Glen this weekend for the Go Bowling at The Glen NASCAR race.

While Goodyear hasn’t made any official announcements, it’s not hard to connect the dots. After all, Watkins Glen International is New York’s only NASCAR Cup Series track, and Goodyear has a long-standing relationship with NASCAR. It’s practically a tradition for the Goodyear Blimp to be part of the spectacle at major sporting events, and this one is no exception.

The blimp’s presence adds an extra layer of excitement for racing fans and casual observers alike.

There’s just something captivating about seeing the massive airship slowly drifting across the sky.

Whether it’s nostalgia or simply the rare sight of the blimp, it always seems to bring a little thrill.

So, if you haven’t seen it yet, keep your eyes peeled—especially as the weekend approaches. You might just catch the blimp soaring overhead as it makes its way to Watkins Glen for what promises to be an action-packed race weekend!
