Each week on ‘In Touch’, our locally produced public affairs program, I have the pleasure of talking with individuals and organizations from all over the Hudson Valley. We focus on non-profit organizations and volunteers who are working hard to help make all of our communities better places to live, work, and raise our families.

This week Christina Boryk, the Executive Director for Rebuilding Together Dutchess County, stopped by our studios to get us caught up with all that has been going on with the organization. They have one of their two, yearly National Rebuilding Days coming up next month, April 29 when they will be working on 5 homes plus doing work at Locust Grove Community Center.

They also have a new Fire Safety and Light It Up program. This is in conjunction with the American Red Cross, where Rebuilding Together Dutchess County will come and check smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in homes and replace as needed. So, if you, or someone you know doesn't feel too steady on a ladder, this can be a real help and potential life-saver. The Light-Up program can help home owners feel safer in their homes by having solar powered motion detector lights installed around the home. Just call 845-454-7310 to get more information. There's no income requirements for either of these programs.

You can find out who their Toolbox heroes are, local tradespeople who help them with their mission of a safe and healthy house for everyone, information about their Handyman program, the NY Grant program ‘Access to Home, as well as applications on their website. If you need help, please ask, that's what they're here for.
