Deciding to start a family is a huge decision and where to raise that family is hard to.

Almost everything comes down to the cost of living.

If you have a family here in the Hudson Valley this may not come as a surprise to you but we have made the list of the 10 most expensive places to raise a family.

The folks over at Market Watch did a recent study that included 618 metro areas and calculated the cost of living in each area based on the costs of the following, housing, child care, food, transportation, health care and of course taxes.

One of the biggest costs for families is child care, 500 out of the 618 areas that were part of the study, child care was the biggest expense, averaging about $12,500 a year nationwide.

So where did we rank in this study? Here is the top 10:

1. Washington D.C.

2. Long Island N.Y.

3. Westchester County N.Y.

4. New York City

5. Stamford-Norwalk C.T.

6. Honolulu

7. Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown N.Y.

8. Ithaca N.Y.

9. San Francisco

10. Danbury C.T.

Yes we came in at number 7 according to this study, because we are close to New York City. The study says that it costs a family of four $92,837 to just pay the bills.
