Summer has officially arrived in the Hudson Valley and so have our Hudson Valley Summer storms. Here in the Hudson Valley we can experience severe Summer weather. Thunderstorms bring flash flooding, gusty straight line winds, tornadoes and even hail.

This afternoon the forecast called for scatter thunderstorms as a possibility. It turned out that a few of them came through around 4 PM bringing with them hail the size of Stay Puff marshmallows. Some of the hail was very large in size, roughly an inch in diameter.

I joke that on these warm summer days we can cook up a storm but that seems to be exactly what happened today in parts of the Hudson Valley. I had two separate people tell me that large size hail fell at their homes late Monday afternoon. One report came from Rifton, just North of New Paltz. A friend let me know that a storm came through bringing hail that damaged all the plants in her garden.

Rick Knight a fellow Townsquare Media co-worker returned home just in time to take these pictures at his house in Highland / Clintondale right after the storm front had moved through.
