Grace Fogarty Fiederlein, a Fishkill Resident, Dies at 89
Grace Fogarty Fiederlein, 89, of Pawleys Island, SC and Fishkill, NY, died peacefully in her sleep after a short battle with cancer.
Grace was born at home in the Bronx on April 11, 1927 to Harriet Zaichak Fogarty and William Fogarty. She was predeceased by her loving husband Dennis Fiederlein and her five siblings: Florence Lee (Ed), John “Jackie” Fogarty (Josie), Harriet Fogarty, Marion Long (Walter), and Helen Carmody (Marty). She leaves behind her daughter Denise O’Shea; granddaughters Christie O’Shea Selman and Danielle O’Shea; grandson-in-law David Selman; and her most recent pride and joy great-grandson Miles Selman. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and very special friends including Su and Tom Cowieson, Polly and Lou Smith, and Troy and Kira Brookshire.
Grace was a devoted NYC elementary teacher who taught for over 25 years at PS 71 in the Bronx. She was very proud of her career, and loved her students and fellow teachers. She especially enjoyed attending the retired teachers’ luncheons with her friends. She also loved to play (win) Scrabble, Cards, Dominoes, and Bingo. She remained active and positive until her final hours. Her contagious smile will be missed by all those who knew her.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 1-5pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday at 9am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
