Georgia Vasilakos, a Fishkill resident since 2012, formerly of Port Richey, FL, Long Island, and Greece, died on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was 86.
Daughter of the late George and Constantina (Nicolopoulos) Aliferis, she was born in Greece on March 12, 1930. Georgia was a skilled tailor and seamstress, and worked for several different companies. She retired in 1991 from Men’s Wearhouse at their location in Huntington.
On November 22, 1959, she married George Vasilakos in Hempstead, NY. Mr. Vasilakos survives at home in Fishkill.
Other survivors include her three sons, John Vasilakos & his wife Vicki of Farmingville, Gus Vasilakos & his wife Kelly of Wappingers Falls, and Bill Vasilakos & his wife Teresa of Garden City Park; her grandchildren, Georgia, Leonidas, Georgia, and Kassandra; her sisters, Vasou Prezvis, Pope Lameris, and Christina Koutsoukos & her husband Stavros; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends.
She was predeceased by her parents as well as two sisters, Demetra Mavrodakos and Vera Aliferis.
Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 24 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill.
A funeral service will be offered at 10 a.m. on Thursday, August 25 at Kimisis Greek Orthodox Church, 140 South Grand Avenue, Poughkeepsie, with Rev. Fr. Joseph Collins officiating. Interment will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
