Fountains of Wayne Musician Dies in Poughkeepsie of COVID-19

Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne was being treated in a Poughkeepsie hospital when he died of coronavirus complications.

According to the New York Times, Schlesinger died in Poughkeepsie, New York at the age of 52.  According to his family, he passed away due to coronavirus. The musician was most known for his pop-rock band, Fountains of Wayne, which had several major hits including Stacy's Mom.

Schlesinger was also responsible for writing the Beatles-inspired music for the film That Thing You Do! Tom Hanks, who directed the film, tweeted his condolences.

Hanks recently returned home to the United States after being quarantined in Australia during his own battle with coronavirus.

It's unclear what Poughkeepsie hospital Schlesinger was being treated at, but the musician was certainly among fans while he was being treated. During the early 2000s the Fountains of Wayne were mainstays on Alternative Rock station, WRRV. The band's songs Stacy's Mom and Radiation Vibe both spent several weeks in the top position of the Hudson Valley radio station's countdown of most requested songs.
