Former Marist Kicker Leaving New York
Former Marist placekicker, and 2018 Pro Bowler, Jason Myers has announced via Twitter that he is leaving the New York Jets after one season with the team. Myers made a surprise run to the Pro Bowl last year, after successfully making 33 out of 36 field goal attempts, including an NFL-record five kicks of 55 yards or more and one game in which he kicked seven field goals.
A report from ESPN indicates that Jason has agreed to a 4-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks worth $15-16 million. This is a significant raise for the 27-year-old, who only made $705,000 last year with Gang Green, according to ESPN. Myers actually spent some time in Seattle last year, where he battled with veteran Sebastian Janikowski for the kicking job before he was released and scooped up by the Jets.
Before making waves in the NFL, Myers spent four years in Poughkeepsie at Marist College as a punter and kicker, earning honorable mention all-PFL status from 2010-2012. While we're sad to see him leave New York behind, we're happy that a former Red Fox is having continued success in the pros. Good luck out west, Jason!
