Fish For Free in the Hudson Valley This Weekend

No fishing license? No problem this weekend in the Hudson Valley.

New York State is encouraging people to go fishing this weekend by waiving the need for a license. On Saturday, June 29 and Sunday, June 30 New York residents can fish at 7,500 lakes and ponds or 70,000 miles of rivers and streams across the state without a license.

Basil Seggos, the DEC Commissioner said in a press release, "School is officially out, and what better way to kick off summer with your family than to take your kids fishing," The weather has warmed up and fish are hungry, so this weekend is a great time to enjoy some fishing.

Here in the Hudson Valley we have plenty of stocked streams, lakes and ponds where fishing is not only easy to access, but a fun way to spend the day. If you've never been fishing before, it's not very hard to get started. A simple pole, hook, some worms and beginner's luck is all you need to catch your first fish.

New York State has several days throughout the year where you can fish for free. If you can't make it out this weekend, you'll be able to take advantage of free fishing days on September 28 (National Hunting and Fishing Day), and Veterans Day on November 11 (Veterans Day)
