It's not technically a heat wave, but we'll take it.

For spring in the Hudson Valley, it's better late than never. After a miserably cold April, the month of May is looking much warmer.

The National Weather Service is predicting temperatures to rise into the upper 70s on Tuesday and then break the 80-degree barrier by mid-week.

Frigid temperatures on Monday night should finally break by Tuesday, with temperatures starting to climb into the 70s. On Wednesday we're expecting a high temperature of 83. Those over-80 temperatures will stick around for three days.

Thursday will see temperatures at the same or slightly higher level. Then on Friday, we should have a high right around 80. While the warmer temperatures will be a welcome break from an otherwise non-existent spring, the heat will also bring the threat of thunder or rain showers throughout the region.

Even though it finally feels like we're on the path to summer, you probably shouldn't start packing away the sweaters just yet. Temperatures are expected to return to the 60s by the end of the weekend.
