On Monday, Dec. 11, the New York Police Department tweeted that they were responding to reports of an explosion in Midtown.

The explosion took place at 42nd Street and 8th Avenue, putting it next to the Port Authority. According to NBC, authorities are urging commuters to avoid the area due to police activity.

ABC reports that it is a possible pipe bomb exploding. According to the New York Post, a suspect is in custody. They report that there are several injuries.

All A, C, and E subway lines (ACE) have been evacuated, according to the NYPD. The New York Times reports that the MTA said that 1, 2, 3, A, C, E, N, Q, R, W and 7 trains were skipping 42nd Street.

CBS tweeted it is believed this device exploded prematurely.

UPDATE: The FBI is now investigating the situation to see if this was a one person acting or part of a broader scheme, according to NBC. Market Watch reports that the suspect is a 27-year-old suicide bomber from Brooklyn, who was inspired by ISIS.
