Three students and a staff member were sent to the hospital after a teenager allegedly assaulted the group at their Hudson Valley school.

New York State Police from the Livingston barracks arrested a 16-year-old formerly of Schenectady, for assault, a class D felony, and criminal possession of a weapon, a class A misdemeanor.

Troopers were sent by Columbia County 911 following reports of an assault that occurred at the Berkshire Farm Center. A staff member said that four victims were currently being treated in the hospital after receiving non-life threatening injuries after an altercation in the school’s courtyard.

Police say their investigation revealed that a group of students were involved in a physical altercation. During the altercation, the boy allegedly used a utility knife to cut three residents. When a staff member attempted to break up the fight, the boy cut him with the knife as well.

All four victims were treated at Berkshire Medical Center and released. The teen is scheduled to appear in the Town of Livingston Justice Court on a later date.

According to the school’s website Berkshire Farm Center and Services for Youth is New York's leading child welfare organization working to strengthen children and families so they can live safely, independently, and productively.
