William J Smith Sr. “Bill”, of New Windsor, NY, and former longtime Dutchess County resident, died Thursday, April 13, 2017. He was 70.

The son of Alphonso A. and the late Helen E. (Brown) Smith, he was born November 15, 1946 in Tarrytown, NY. He married the love of his life, Donna (Roberts) Smith, on October 3, 1970 in St. Francis of Assisi Church in Mt. Kisco, NY. Donna survives at home.

Bill served his country in the US Navy in Vietnam. He was employed at Con Edison for 32 years before retiring in 2001.

Bill had a passion for fishing, he loved it. His favorite season was Football season. Much to his wife’s chagrin, he was a Red Sox fan and loved the WWE. He was loved and respected by all those lucky enough to know him. He was everyone’s Uncle Bill. It is truly amazing how much love resided in that big heart of his.

In addition to his wife Donna, he is survived by sons, William Smith Jr. of Washington, DC, and Jason Smith (Kate) of Hopewell Junction; his father, Alphonso Smith; his siblings, Alexis Pelliccio of Boca Raton, FL, Jeff (Kendra) Smith and Craig Smith of Tarrytown, NY; sisters-in-law, Victoria (Ted) Tuttle, Diane (Ron) Olsen, Lisa (Mike) Holder and Tracey Servello (Marcy); and numerous nieces and nephews, all very precious to him.

In addition to his mother he was predeceased by his parents-in-law Anne and Gerald Servello.

Visitation will be held from 4-8pm on Wednesday, April 19 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh, with a service at 7:30pm.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Town of Newburgh Animal Control and Shelter; or Wounded Warrior Project.
